How Does one become a truck driver for a NASCAR Racing team?
I already have a class A CDL with HAZMAT, tanker, and doubles/triples endorsements. 1 yr exp driving in the oilfield with vehicles up to 127,000 lbs.
Peta summed it up well. They don’t just drive in on Thursday a hang out till Sunday night. Consider driving a souvenir/display truck or other support vehicle at first or perhaps for a TV crew. Your chances of getting a gig driving around the premier car for a first-class team are probably slim, unless you are in the right place at the right time with the right contacts. Be persistent and flexible and as Peta said, willing to do other things.
Your experience will help, but may not be enough. There are lots of drivers looking for jobs and everyone wants a job in NASCAR. Start with the new teams (Michael Waltrip, Red Bull, etc) and in the CTS and Series-to-be-named-later (now Busch).
