How would I test a used game console?
I am going to buy used / refurbished game consoles like the PS3, and besides manually testing to see if it works.
Is their a more sophisticated tool, method to test it? Ex. Can I hire a 3rd party tester to go with me and test it out before I purchase it?
Buying used systems can be a hit or miss game but I would suggest trying it out first hand. If you buy the system from an individual, as to test out the system before you purchase it. Make sure it will play games without any problems, test the memory card slot (load games and maybe even save a dummy game to make sure it works). Also make sure that it can play other types of media (CD’s, DVD’s, etc. I’m not sure what all PS3 can play). If they won’t let you test it right there, before you buy it, just leave.
Several years ago my PS1 broke and I found an ad in the paper for a used PS with 2 controllers, memory card and games. The guy was more than happy to let me test it out to prove that it worked just fine and I bought the system and it was the last PS1 I ever needed.
Also, consider places like Gamestop. I’m fairly certain that they test all their used systems out and offer a guarantee, so if you bought it from there and it didn’t work, you could always take it back and exchange it.
Hope this helps
